Best Families Love libraries event winner announced 12 Mar 07

Birmingham Central Library awarded national prize for best Families Love libraries event, held on Families Love Libraries Day in October 2006

Congratulations to Birmingham Central Library, winner of the 2006 ‘Best Families Love Libraries Event’, held as part of the first ever national ‘Families Love Libraries Day’, during Family Learning Week in October. The prestigious award, presented on the 12 March at the national family learning conference at the QEII Conference Centre in London, was sponsored by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).

Birmingham Central Library’s spectacular free Space Trail event attracted over 15,000 visitors. Families were able to take the trail around all six floors of the library, where story telling, face painting, craft making, Rhythm Time music for young children, and other themed activities were offered, with popular space characters and a band providing entertainment. Children were able to collect star stickers from each of the activity zones, and could claim a goody bag of prizes once they had completed the trail.

Commenting on their award, Yvonne Burt, Birmingham Central Library said, “This was the biggest Family Learning Event we have held at the library, and by far the most exciting. Working with family learning providers in Birmingham City, we wanted to attract families into the library and introduce them to the extensive range of services we offer. This award makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
